About this tour

Ready to discover one of the hidden gems of the Suriname coastal area? Take the boat to Braamspunt’s beach. The Commewijne River, the Suriname River, and the Atlantic Ocean all meet at Braamspunt, the westernmost point of the Commewijne area. Braamspunt is a beautiful broad beach where you can go fishing, walking, swimming, and relaxing in the sand. The erratic nature of the washed-up mangrove wood immediately explains why this area is known as the Wild Coast. The beach has also become a new breeding place for sea turtles in recent years, making Braamspunt a must-see attraction in Commewijne. Braamspunt is easily accessible by boat and is appropriate for both children and adults.

Tips:

  • Bring Comfortable Beachwear: Wear swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, and light, breathable clothing suitable for the beach and potential swimming.
  • Waterproof Footwear: The beach may have some rocky or muddy areas, so water-friendly shoes are ideal for exploring.
  • Don’t Forget Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen generously, as the beach offers little shade, and you’ll be exposed to the sun for an extended period.
  • Stay Hydrated: Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated during your time on the beach, especially if it’s warm.
  • Binoculars for Bird Watching: The beach area is a great spot for birdwatching. Bring binoculars to catch a closer look at local wildlife.
  • Bring a Camera: The stunning scenery and the unique washed-up mangrove wood make for excellent photo opportunities.
  • Respect the Wildlife: Braamspunt is a nesting ground for sea turtles, so avoid disturbing the sand nests or turtles, especially during nesting season.
  • Pack Light Snacks: Bringing light snacks can help keep you energized.
  • Fishing Gear (Optional): If you’re interested in fishing, bring along light fishing gear for some relaxed fishing along the beach.
