About this tour
Boni, the heroic 18th century freedom warrior, is immortalized at Plantage Frederiksdorp through an educative and interactive slavery trail that takes you through Suriname’s history of slavery. The Boni Trail includes activities such as sailing from a symbolic Fort Elmina via “The Door of No Return,” being chained and “branded,” wandering past an exhibition of paintings, huts, and antiques, and spotting the ever-emerging Boni. The trail takes tourists on an emotional trip through the jungle, transporting them to a time of brutal plantation owners, ferocious resistance, and unsung heroes. The Bonitrail recalls the history of the plantation’s dark past, not as a victim of slavery, but as a fighter against it.
